hai thar

i liked the bubbles at the beginning. they looked awfully, neat, but then comes the motherland's flag. it looks sloppy - the lines aren't cleaned up very well and it needs some more animation; it's a bit jerky. the guy pushing the button looks pretty stylish, but i really don't like the green lines. there's no green in the environment, and he's wearing all black, so why is there green? i think a white outline would have done you justice on that scene. i noticed that the reflection wasn't a true reflection, but just a transparent version of the guy. i think, that if you had taken the time to draw a proper reflection (meaning, FINGERS), that it would have looked a lot nicer. the sound quality of the speech is good, though. no crackles or bumps or obnoxious breathing sounds to be heard. i like how smooth the missile-tracking lines move in the next scene, but the U.S. diverting them to Africa? i dunno, seems a bit devious. wouldn't we shoot them down?

then comes this next scene...the abrupt change in art style here really disrupts the atmosphere, here. it's far too cartoony and jagged. the semi-3d missile looks ok until it rotates downward, more. then it just looks like a load of multi-colored polygons. and then..it just ends. it seemed like far too short of a movie with this abrupt ending. i suppose one could make that into a positive, in that it didn't overstay its welcome, but i think it could have gone on a bit longer, going into detail of the ramifications the nuclear war caused.

pretty good movie, mr. Dew. a few flaws here and there, and it's a bit short, but other than that, it's pretty good.

Dew responds:

Haha, you're not a bad reviewer at all are you? You managed to get a lot of good points in your review, I like that. This submission happens to be an intro for another future submission. You made me laugh more than a few times, well worth asking you to review. Nice.

creative!

i wasn't expecting the cartoon to be like this. i liked it. it was very creative and funny, although i think it could have been a bit longer, but only because it was fun to watch. other than that, the length was just fine.

OMFG

DONT MAIK FUN OF TEH IRISH CUZ UR A BIG OL MEANIE IF U DO ALSO GOD BLESS AMERICA

also it was silly and i fifened it up 7.97 times.

biblo responds:

wooppy wooo!

ugh.

do you really think that making a 10-second long cartoon and getting your clock friends to mass vote it is funny? does it give you a stiffy when a shitty spam flash by you passes through the newgrounds portal? i hate it when people like you take advantage of this system. people learn that shitty movies by people like you will always pass, so then they vote it up for the protection points.

RobertClock responds:

dude, i havent even pos ted this on the clockcrew website. this passed fair and square. no massvoting. go fuck yourself.

not bad, but not that good, either.

it's pretty clear you know what you're doing right now - the movie has, what, 5 songs or so in it? and it's less than one megabyte? excellent job on the compression, especially considering it's also a sprite movie. all you need to do, in order to get better, is just practice. instead of using pre-made art, try drawing things yourself (the tank was a nice, if not out-of-place, touch). the animation was pretty good, but try increasing the framerate a bit and make movements a bit smoother. the tank's movement was probably the worst, and the explosions were pretty lackluster. instead of a fireball sprite, find an actual explosion sprite, and don't just tween it around when there are more explosions. the dialog wasn't that great, but at least you had decent grammar. many first-timers tend to be young, and as such, don't care about grammar. so that's a big plus for you. just make the fonts bigger and easier to read. also, for a more cartoony look, give the speech bubbles a thicker outline of 3-5 px. thinner ones are used for more realistic sort of cartoons.

good luck with your future flash endeavors. remember to not just stick to spriting, though (:

great collab!

really, only a couple movies in this bring it down.

bunnies: pretty average. the art is ok, but the shading is kind of obnoxious. the over-the-top expressions are kind of funny, though. this didn't last very long, which is probably a good thing. the brevity made it funnier.

edds: short and funny. your typical movie from mr. edd. great job (:

ears: definitely the high point of the cartoon. wonderful character design and funny and fluid animation. i loved the "bwow" part. i think the placement isn't so great, though - it made the rest of the movies look a bit worse.

dinosaurs: my least favorite movie in this collab. the art and animation were as obnoxious as the song was.

backwards: i'm not sure if the reversed portion is actually part of the song, but if it isn't, it's all the funnier. i liked the art and animation in this 'un.

muffin: i loved it! the art is trippy and amazing, and the animation is crazy-smooth. great work!

appliances: maybe this is another case of a false memory, but i remember this movie being on the front page a while ago. it was odd seeing it recycled here, but it's funny nonetheless.

toenails: good song, good art, and good animation. my only suggestion for this movie is that the lipsync needs to be fixed. it lacks many movements that would make it look realistic (for a cartoon, anyway) and that just really annoys me. the movie is otherwise well done.

tetris: an ok movie. this didn't really do it for me. i don't care too much for the song, and i don't care too much for the movie. i liked the intro where you typed out random bits of the song's intro, though.

burrito: weird, but the art is snazzy and the animation is pretty good. that's a pretty shitty burrito, though :P

basically, a great, great collab.

probably my favorite flash movie on newgrounds.

everything about this movie was absolutely perfect! i don't think i've said that in a while, so it should mean something.

i hadn't seen the original video before, so i watched it after i watched this. it was nifty being able to see what scenes you referenced or drew inspiration from. looking back at the reviews for this, it seems like a lot of people don't bother to read the author's comments, and knock your review score down (and possibly your actual score) because of it. go figure :S

i loved how you did the lip sync. it was smooth and pleasing to my eye. while it wasn't totally perfect, it still fit in just fine and it looked good enough to where it's a petty issue. the whole rhythm of the movie matched up perfectly with the song - same for the mood. amazing job, mr. rtil. i also downloaded the flash pixel tools. i hope to find some use for it later on (: the pixel ellipse and line tools don't seem to quite work right, though.

rtil responds:

yeah, i never use the ellipse and line tool, they suck. just wing it with the freehand tool ;)
glad you like the cartoon, too. thank you

lacking in length

the new designs are pretty subtle...i didn't notice much different. they still look great, though. i like the idea of this being more video game-oriented, but i don't care too much for the idea of shorter movies. this one seemed far too short. it seemed like, just as it got to the climax of the story, it ended.

i'd prefer less frequent and longer cartoons. \: but other than the length, i don't have any other complaints.

painful to watch.

way to take advantage of the nigh-pandemic love for anime, there. the dialog was terrible and corny and the animation was jerky and horrible.

get your own art style.

sayaka-mizaki responds:

hur hur hur
if it were so painful why watch? or even respond
you amaze me fool

stop drawing like a 2 year old and come back when you grow some balls =3

hmm,

maybe you're not aware, but this is not youtube. this is a place for flash, not videos.

this doesn't belong here, especially not with that horribly overused and out-of-place music.

Deathlock-5 responds:

file name ends in .swf, therefore this is flash.
horrible/overused/out of place is a matter of opinion
since this passed judgement i gues most of NG disagrees with you about this not belonging here

honk honk.
