excellent!

this is going to be the 500th movie i've protected, so i'm going to review it.

the art is great. while some of the animation is a little sloppy (mostly at the beginning) it doesn't really matter because everything else is great. the people constantly bothering him on AIM was pretty funny...mostly because that's true, that it'll type in the chat box when it comes.

i was expecting it to be 8:01 when he turned it in, or some other ironic situation would come up that caused him to be late, but that didn't happen and i think the movie is better off like that. the Final Fantasy-esque music got slightly annoying near the end, but the fact that you included Free Bird pretty much made up for that.

great job (:

You seriously had me going for the first couple of lines there, Rammy.

Unneeded frustration! Blargh!

not bad at all for a first

and not bad, even disregarding that fact. i like the mix of hand-drawn art and sprite art - it shows that you at least have an inkling of artistic talent. some shading on the hand-drawn bits would have been nice, especially since you didn't have to focus on character art. the story is pretty decent. it reminded me a lot of Shakespeare's "The Tempest," and the "silly" aspect of it wasn't overdone at all (like "MARIO ATE MAI CAIK OMG I KILL DAT MUTHA").

my main complaints are the lack of sounds and the terrible pacing. you should look up compression tutorials on this site to learn how to get that file size down. some sound would have been nice, like for the waves lapping the beach, and especially for the explosion. regarding pacing, it was slow and obnoxious. speech-text came in far too slow; just have it appear all at once and let the user read it at his or her own pace, and allow said user to press a key (probably the spacebar) to advance it, rather than having to click on an arrow.

other than the lack of sound and the pacing issues, this is very, very good for a first. a great start, good luck with the series.

i didn't think it was all that good.

larry didn't seem to be very emotional throughout this whole thing, and next to the lackluster animation, it annoyed me the most. his "shocked" expression (i'm a bit confused on why he's shocked in the first place \: ) isn't really very "shocked" to begin with. he looks half asleep, with his droopy eyelids, and he looks like that throughout most of the cartoon.

the animation also bothered me. it wasn't very smooth, although it certainly wasn't sloppy. it just didn't convey motion very well. his slipping and sliding seemed like it was just one frame after another, with no real sense of inertia and weight. the cord didn't even snap...it came out of an electrical socket, which doesn't really have much resistance when it comes to pulling the plug out of it. even his falling out of the window didn't really seem "right." he flailed widly while falling, but...he fell slow. the fall was in slow motion, but his panic clearly wasn't. that mix was kind of odd.

the humor was also lacking. it didn't really make sense in context of the situation; a guy accidentally shoving his hand in a toaster, freaking out and falling out an apartment complex is a funny idea, but in the context of this toon, it seemed...out of place. larry walked in, looking shocked, then sort of slipped and slided up to the table and placed his hand in there. was the toaster even on? it's like being electrocuted in an empty bathtub with a hairdryer that's not plugged in \:

the art was pretty good, though. i don't have any real complaints in this department. it was clean and simple. larry's walk cycle was fluid and bouncy, excellent job on that.

rilstix responds:

Thanks for the in-depth review Rammer, I appreciate it. I had a certain time frame in which to make the animation and I admit the quality could be higher. I would of liked to spend more time on it but the deadline arrived and I just wanted to get it out there and never touch it again, you know what I mean?

it's been done before.

there's better tutorials out there that explain this better than you have. you don't even know what the last frame is for in buttons? that decides what part you can click on.

FreeRunRobert responds:

Im bussy to update my tutorial,

obnoxious and cliched.

i think the one funny thing about this movie is that you tried to talk in a deep voice. 13-year-olds just can't do that, unfortunately.

the art was sloppy, and the concept of spartans (or whatever the fuck they are) being stupid in a multiplayer match is getting old. come up with something original, use original characters, and get a few pubes before making another movie, k?

Swim-The-Swan responds:

Allright, suit your fucking self, pal. Just try not to let your huge fucking ego turn you into an ass. Or has that already happened? Im not gonna bother to check your other reviews because i got stuff to do, people to see, A FUCKING LIFE TO LIVE. You should spend less time hunched over at your computer, watching internet cartoons, eating cheetos, and making an ass of yourself, and actually go out and do things fo once. Then maybe you'll see why the whole world doesnt FUCKING REVOLVE AROUND YOU.

eurgh, disgusting.

i am referring to the music, of course. that's probably the only reason this flash has such a low score. the fact that you didn't even bother to compress (1.3 megs of 17 seconds? come on.) didn't help you, either \:

yawn.

"the graphics are bad on purpose, to help create the mood of the film, you will get it."

sounds like a bullshit cover-up of you not being able to draw.

all the graphics (if you can even call them that) did were distract me because of how hideously bad they were.

Organclock responds:

Myabe if you took the time to watch one of my other films like kitty kre must die, you would no that the graphics are poor on purpose.

boring.

the frame-rate is much too low for this to really show any motion. when the blob was kicked off the mannequin's foot, and then was smacked on his face again, there was no sense of motion. when you get hit the in your face, you don't just lean back and then pop up again. your head would be thrown back and your body would follow, and it wouldn't be at a constant speed. your head would decelerate as you try to get upright again.

the music sucked, too. (:

good; suffers from generic music video qualities

i love music videos, i really do. however, this one falls short of my expectations. when i see a music video, i don't want to see repetition. Future is an amazing example of that. no parts in it are repeated, much unlike this one.

your art style is wearing on my nerves. it's getting to be a little bit annoying, just how they have shadows over their eyes and such. the little 3d effect at the beginning was nice, but maybe you should have tossed in some more eye candy throughout the movie. it's kind of like a snow-cone. all the flavor tends to drip down to the bottom, forcing you to eat through the less flavorful ice, although in this case, it's reversed, in that the most flavorful was at the top, and it started getting crappier toward the bottom. the best part was at the beginning, because all of it was new, but toward the middle and end, you just recycled things from before.

the one thing that made this movie remotely bearable was the music. not only was the music itself fairly good, but it was in german, and it was interesting to realize that i could actually understand some of it, because i'm in my 2nd year of german class in high school. the music was fairly repetitive as well, which sort of detracted from its overall quality.

all in all, a fairly good flash, brought down by omniscient repetitiveness.

honk honk.
